Well that didn’t take long. If you read yesterday’s article on The Packers Release Martellus Bennett I ended the article with a prediction that Bennett might end up back with the team he won a Superbowl ring with last season – and as soon as Bennett became available, New England made their move.
The Patriots will only owe Bennett $423,529 – as well as being eligible for $300,000 in roster bonuses – which is a steal for a tight end of his caliber. Also, their will be no financial commitment for New England beyond 2017, which Bennett has already stated will most-likely be his last season as a pro.
Any hope that Green Bay had at making playoff run went out the window as soon as Aaron Rodgers went down. Which makes joining the Patriots a much better situation for Bennett. Assuming he gets healthy, he will be a major redzone threat for the Pats – and transitioning back to catching passes from Brett Hundley to the games greatest quarterback of all-time is always a plus.
