The Boston Celtics winning-streak came to an end in Miami Wednesday night. Before that – the last time they lost was October 18th. The final score Wednesday night was 104-98.
Miami’s Goran Dragic led his team with 27 points, Dion Waiters put up 26 with a pair of clutch three-pointers in the final minutes to help the Heat hold off the Celtics, snapping Boston’s winning streak at 16.
Kyrie Irving led the Celtics with 23 points, Jason Tatum put up 18, and Jaylen Brown had 14. Coach Brad Stevens commented after the game, “Sometimes you spend so much energy to get back into it, you just don’t have enough left.”
It was reported by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin that the Cleveland Cavaliers had the Celtics-Heat game on in the locker room and half of the team stuck around to watch the finish intently. When Kyrie scored to make it 97-92, LeBron was quoted saying “Hell of a finish. Beautiful.”
The Celtics lead the Eastern Conference with a record of 16-3. They will host the Orlando Magic at the TD Garden in Boston Friday night, before traveling to Indiana to face the Pacers Saturday night.
