The Pittsburgh Steelers released James Harrison on Saturday to make room for offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert, who was activated from the Reserve/Suspended by the commissioner list.
The 39 year old franchise sack leader is a two-time Super Bowl Champion, a five-time probowler, and 2008’s NFL defensive player of the year.
NFL Networks Ian Rapoport responded to the news of Harrison’s dismissal from the team.
The Steelers cutting James Harrison makes sense. Probably the least-likely player to get claimed off waivers. Could return on Monday night.
Harrison’s playing time had diminished substantially this season. But to release an all time great from the team two days before Christmas is a bit harsh — hopefully he will be back by Tuesday.
